I made Brownies the other day. It turn out quite alright. My brother said its quite bitter tho, but I kinda like it bitter. I hate awfully sweet things which taste quite gross over time. That's why I never buy brownies from shops coz they are always very sweet. I dunno why the shops make them VERY sweet, firstly, customers (ie me) hate the sweetness, secondly, the shops saved ALOT (by cutting down on sugar) and thirdly, it is cheaper for customers and in turn generate sales!! This goes for all the cakes and dessert as well!!
But mine turned out just right. It really comes down to ur own personal taste!!!
Here's the recipe.
1 1/2 cup caster sugar. (For sweet tooth people, add sugar according to personal taste)
250g melted butter.
4 eggs.
1 1/2 cup plain flour.
6 tablespoon of cocoa (I would suggest cutting it if u want it to be less bitter).
First, mix the caster sugar and melted butter in a bowl. Then, put in the eggs, one at a time, while mixing at the same time. Fold the flour and cocoa. Make sure u sieve them to get rid of chunky bits. Mix all the ingredients together thoroughly.
Line a flat thin with baking paper. Make sure u spread the mixture evenly with a 1cm thickness. Baked in a 180 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or until cook. It might still look bubbly after 25 minutes but don't worry, the butter will harden once cooled. It depends whether u like ur brownie rock solid or gooey soft. I like mine rock solid. LOL.
For variations, I would recommend adding choc chips, smarties, or for something exotic, maybe some nuts like walnut, almond or my fave pistachio (altho quite pricey) or dried fruits like apricot or sultanas.
Enjoy!!! Next project, butter cookies, kaya spread or choc mousse (still waiting on mum to buy a whisk!!)
